I somewhat agree with Annas hypothesis, in a few ways. Well, first off, I think if something is the original, let's say, for example, a video game system. You have the first generation: Nintendo Entertainment System. A few years later, Nintendo finds a way to make it a better experience and release the Super Nintendo. At this point, everyone has a Super Nintendo, but still remember the Nintendo and sometimes remember it for nostalgic value. In reality you need to stay with the times or else you're behind. So, in a way, it's a choice of the people.
What would happen is, the new humans would be superior in many ways. Flawless, beautiful creatures, but here's the thing, they aren't really REAL. The first generation of humans would be the ones that would be remembered for being the original. And the original are the ones that are perfect in the way in which, it's natural, you can't fix something that isn't broken, you can only corrupt it. And messing with genetics and human life is just altering something that is already perfect.

The nintendo analogy was different. just goes to show that nobody is satisfied with what they have. Even if everyone were perfect, people would still be looking for ways to better themselves
The Nintendo example you used really struck me when you said "In reality you need to stay with the times or else you're behind. So, in a way, it's a choice of the people." I agree entirely! If you aren't what society expects from you, you're considered an outcasts until you make the choice to change (which in many cases is an obligation).
I gotta agree with Tasheema the comparison with nintendo was a bit unique. I do find what you say to be true because a lot of the times we tend to remember the things in life that got trends started.Damn now you got me thinking of my childhood.
the way you used videogame evolution is dead on so i say unique.
The video game metaphor is good because once the standard is elevated, we adjust our perception of what we expect. Nintendo had shitty graphics and 2d capabilities where snes incorporated free roam system, first and 3rd person view and better graphics. Nintendo was just not as attractive compared to SNES. This is a good metaphor to compare to the movie.
